Is it possible to do progress billing in Studiometry?

I'm looking at buying Studiometry for my architectural practice where I work on projects in stages - eg. Concept Design, Design Development, Documentation etc. Fees for each of these stages are set out in an estimate at the start of the project. I then invoice on a "percentage complete" basis - that is, I send out an invoice at the end of each month for the work done in each stage up to the date of the invoice. So in the first invoice, Concept Design might be 90% complete and Design Development 20% complete.

Is there a simple way in Studiometry to invoice on this basis and relate it back to the estimate? So when I go to invoice the next month, I know how much was invoiced in each stage the month before?

This should be possible but I have a few questions about the specifics of how this would work:

1. Are the invoiced amounts based on fixed amounts set before any work is done, or are they based on work entered throughout the duration of the project?

2. Are you looking to show the billable amounts for the percentages of each stage (ie 90% of concept design in the first invoice would be $18,000, and then the next invoice when concept design is finished you would bill for the remaining 10% at $2,000).

There should be a way of getting this done in Studiometry. Also a quick note about an upcoming feature in Studiometry 9, we're adding the ability to show percentages of variables on invoices. This means you can set up your template to automatically show, for example 75% of the projects "total due" variable.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! Sorry for my slow one - I replied to the "noreply email" instead - DOH!

In answer to your questions:

  1. Yes, invoice amounts are based on fixed amounts set out in the original project estimate.
  2. Yes, I need to show the billable amounts for each stage as well as the percentages.

Hi Melissa,

Right now the best way to do this would be to simply invoice for a specified amount. You can do this through the Invoice editing window, select "Total From: Entered Amount". You can then invoice for any amount you'd like.

Regarding automatically calculating percentages, Studiometry will be able to display a percentage of variables in Studiometry 9.0, but for now you'll have to manually input the amount that you'd like to invoice.

Ah ha - so when is Studiometry 9 due to be released? I'll have to decide whether to go another way for now, or wait for the release.

Hi there - I'm back again! I see you have now released version 9 of Studiometry. Can you tell me how to manage progress billing within the new version?
