Visual templates not syncing across the network

Studiometry 10.0 or newer is required to sync Visual invoice and report templates over your Studiometry network. We've added the ability to sync visual templates over your network for Studiometry 10, so the syncing and updating is all automatic, and all machines will have the same list of available templates.

If you have Studiometry 9.x or older, to copy your templates between machines:

  1. On the machine that the template is created on, go to the Preferences Window > Templates section
  2. Select the visual invoice or report template, and then click the "Show In Finder" button that is DIRECTLY BELOW the list of templates you have selected.
  3. Copy the selected file to the new machine (via email, file transfer, etc)
  4. On the new machine, either double-click the template, or go into Studiometry and select File Menu > Import > Visual Invoice/Report Template
  5. The template should then appear in a window. Close the window to prompt the save dialog. The template will now be saved onto the new machine.

Please note that if a visual template is not on a certain machine, the invoice or report will simply show "Unavailable Template" on that machine, but it will retain the ID of the template so that it appears correctly on all machines that have the template.

Well that is rather dull. I'm using Studiometry 9 and while I can see the show in finder button the idea that this has to be done manually is very underwhelming. Cant there just be a "synch now" button for the occasions when you need to make sure every one in the studio has the same page. It synchs everything else really well. I need to make sure the same clauses are being used throughout the company.

This is pretty hard to manage across multiple users... a 'Sync now' button would be an effective solute.

Ditto. Actually I would like to choose the folder where new templates are stored too. Just like the feature you have where I can choose my backup folder. I want something in my own folder structure that I can backup to dropbox or similar. I could then use dropbox to sync the templates to my other computers if studiometry didn't have a sync option. Pretty simple quick fix solution. Also gives me an easy backup of my templates.

BTW what I really want to see in templates is an HTML editor where I can just import my own stylesheet and HTML and have the report editor use that, instead of having to use the WYSIWYG. That would give me better control and I could use the stylesheet across all my templates. (Am I right in thinking this is an HTML or XML driven editor?)

You can create code-based templates if you want to use an HTML/XML template. What Studiometry does is parse the recognized Studiometry variables into the HTML/XML/other code file that you enter into Studiometry. There is a built-in editor for code-based template, but it is a plain text editor. You can easily use any other HTML editor and then copy/paste the final product into Studiometry.

Regarding the original topic, we are looking into updating this to allow for an easier solution. We'll have more information available soon. Thank you!

Studiometry 10.0 and newer will now sync visual invoice and report templates over the network automatically.
