Studiometry 11 is finally here! For the first time in more than 10 years of business, we were late to release a major update of Studiometry. The reason for this was simple: Studiometry’s interface needed a huge overhaul, and we wanted to make sure we got it right.

We’ve redesigned the UI from the ground up to make it cleaner, more intuitive, and easier to understand. We transitioned Studiometry for Mac to a Cocoa build, adding support for full screen mode, spellchecking, and much more. We’ve also added literally hundreds of new features and updates based on user feedback.

Studiometry 11 is available today for download and purchase. New users as well as users of previous versions will get a free 30-day trial. Upgrades from Studiometry 10.x start at $59.95 USD per license, while upgrades from 9.x or older are $99.95 USD per license.

Beautiful New Interface

Studiometry 11′s interface was completely redesigned and rebuilt to be cleaner and more intuitive. We moved to a new three-column layout that makes navigating your data fast and effortless. The updated location bar makes it easier to visualize your current location in Studiometry and move between areas.

Client and Project Overviews

New to Studiometry 11, customizable overviews let you instantly view a snapshot of information for a selected client or project. For example, now when you select a project, Studiometry can immediately show you the project’s budget chart, any incomplete to dos, and all associated invoices. You decide what information is shown and the order in which it appears.

Over 120 Improvements

  • Mac version now built in Cocoa. Full screen mode, spellcheck, and OS X services are now possible in Studiometry.
  • Custom Summaries have been completely rebuilt to be faster and produce cleaner output.
  • Enhanced estimating functions have been added, such as the ability to invoice based on estimated work while still tracking actual work.
  • On-the-fly summaries let you instantly create custom summaries focused on a specific client or project.
  • The new running timers view includes filtering options and searchability as well as a cleaner overall look.
  • A cleaner, easier-to-read calendar displays colors for all items
  • Custom images can now be added to clients and projects. These will appear in the overview and can be used on invoices and reports.
  • Visual invoice or report templates can now group items by project and include a header and footer for each.
  • The watch list has been improved, cleaned up, and moved into the groups list for easy access.
  • You can now add a default address and phone information for a client that will be used when creating invoices and reports for contacts without address information.

    @Dana @Magenta: Thank you! We're excited get the final version out there. This is the biggest change to Studiometry since we've released 1.0.

    @Frank You can just quit your old copy of Studiometry, then download and install the new version. Studiometry will alert you that your database will be updated to be compatible with the new version. All you need to do is click OK.

    As a prospective user of Studiometry (a potential refugee from Billings), I can appreciate all of the hard work that went into 11 but considering all the emphasis on the new UI, why no support for Retina? The UI is painful to work with on my MBP. :(

    @Fong: Thanks for the feedback! We've already begun transitioning Studiometry to work on retina displays, but we don't have an exact release date for this yet. We hope to have it completed within the Studiometry 11.x time. We will have more info on retina in the coming months along with a few other frequently requested features (sub-projects, client-wide views of work and invoices, etc). Thanks!

    Where are the project notes?

    @Robert If you select a project, you can click on the name or click the Edit button (or when Studiometry 11.0.1 comes out press Command-I) to open the Project Editing window. The notes, text logs, and other information can be found there.

    i just love your new branding guys - so much so it seems to me the current studiometry building doesn't fit right.

    so i made an orange .icns file... :) replace if you want. i did - i feel much better about it for some reason.

    Hi Kiryn, Thank you for the kind feedback and for the icns file! We do plan on updating the Studiometry and Accounted icons to go along with the new branding, and we hope to update that throughout the program and various other channels soon. We'll have to get a similar-style icon to the Oranged logo, but we're going to have something different to differentiate it from the company logo. Thanks!

    Where is the database file for Studiometry located?  I'm trying to migrate from one laptop to another and then move from 10 to 11.  I need to do a clean install, but would like not to have to re-enter all of my contacts, projects, etc.  Is there a way to simply move the database file to the new laptop and point 11 to recognize it?  Thanks!

    You can find the database while Studiometry is open by going to the File Menu > Data Management > Show Data Folder In Finder. 

    The default location can be found by going into the finder, selecting Go Menu > Go To Folder, and pasting in:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Studiometry/

    You can select a specific folder to open when launching Studiometry by holding down the control or option key as you launch Studiometry.
