Hello
I am using Studiometry 7.1.3 version. Will it be supported under the new Lion OS? Thank you.
In recent testing, Studiometry 7.x, 8.x, and the 9.x beta are all working well on Mac OS 10.7 Lion. We'll have more info available if we run into any issues while testing!
Great news!
Curious how much 9 is going to cost when released. I sure hope not as much as 8. These upgrades are way overpriced (especially when you have two computers set up with it.
Studiometry 8.x > 9.x will cost $59.95 USD. As always, it's a completely optional upgrade and you are never required to upgrade to a new version. Whatever version you purchased, you own it and it will work forever. Compared to online services that start at $30/month/user, we feel that an optional $59 per year is a very fair price for all of the features and content that we add to each update.
Also Studiometry 7.x and 8.x are Lion compatible, so if you're not interested in the new features there will be nothing stopping you from using those versions.
Thanks for the quick answer – however I'm guessing that price is for one version only. If I'm wrong – great. It's very good (if flawed in some areas) software, but I paid a lot for two copies (version 6 at the time) initially and every upgrade since. Naturally, I'd like the latest version so hopefully whatever upgrades it comes with are worth it.
I never understand people complaining about the price of software like this and its competitors. We spend more than $200 on just our phone bill every MONTH.
Are these updates and all of the work they put into it supposed to be free? Considering that throughout the year we get many free Studometry updates anyway, I have no problem paying for an upgrade if I'm interested in what they're putting into it.
We've been with Studiometry since ~4 and I think we've skipped one upgrade year. Couldn't be happier with the value I get per dollar with this software, especially compared to web-based software that the Oranged staffer mentioned. We looked into Elements CRM, and that would be $44/month per user if I chose to go with them -- thats $528 per year per employee!
If you're not comfortable with ~$5/ month for an optional upgrade, then don't upgrade. We've done it once and they let you hop back on the upgrade line later if you skip a version.
Sorry about the rant, and I don't mean to offend anyone. I just see a lot of this and don't really understand it.
@Bruno: The upgrade price is per-license. I'm not sure your setup, but if you're a single-user you have a few options for how to use the license on multiple machines. Please see this post:

@Frank: Thanks and glad you're happy with Studiometry! We try to keep our prices fair, and we' haven't raised the price of the upgrade (or the "old version" upgrade) in many years. Currently, if you don't have Studiometry 7.x, you can upgrade to Studiometry 8.x from 6.x or older for a flat price. The same will be true for 9.x and all future versions.
Yay that's great news! Excited to get my hands on Lion and your 9 beta.
I don't give a rat's ass what you spend on your phone bill and I don't particularly appreciate your 'rant' either. The fact is about half of what each version of Studiometry offers is useful – the rest is useless bloat. I use the software because I can't find anything better. and believe me, I've been looking. There – that's my rant.
Alright, I was a little pissed when I wrote that last post. Software's not bad and basically does its job. Thanks for the info re the licence thing (post from oranged). I'm a multi-licence user which is why these upgrades can be a little much. However, you're right – I don't have to upgrade.
No hard feelings, Bruno :)
I guess we'll both know soon if Studiometry 9.0 is something each of us will be interested in. From what they've posted so far, though, it looks like we'll almost definitely be getting it. Glad to hear it's already running smoothly on Lion.
Hopefully not a "rant," but also want to add a quick note of support. I had been using Daylite and Billings, with *many* challenges, and was very happy to come across studiometry (been using it for only several months). While not perfect, it definitely "gets the job done" better than anything else I've found, and I'm glad to help keep them in business by supporting yearly updates at what I perceive to be a fair price (especially compared to other business expenses).
Wow, it amazes me the places people will choose to complain, do you do that at the super market, just yell stuff out loud for everyone to hear, LOL. No offence Bruno but read back your threads they are pretty funny.
Seriously though, anyone who has done their homework will know there are a lot of competitors who claim to offer solutions like Studiometry. Likewsie anyone those that have looked into the competition will be aware of the quite wide range of pricing structures (per month/ per license etc.)
Personally comparing Studiometry to 2 major competitors (Traffic & Streamtime) the cost even allowing for multi licenses is by far the cheapest and most flexible being you only need to purchase once (I am still using v7 seamlessly)
Traffic will cost you a bomb we were quoted over $20K and Streamline while cheaper in some ways requires you to purchase Filmaker pro for all licenses as well, and still bangs out annual fees that made it simply ridiculous to justify.
zzzMy vote is for a buy once and upgrade when you want solution. For the cost of a modern monthly phone bill (no jibe intended Bruno) I think Studiometry have really made it the right price and the upgrades as well. To top it off I think Tom and his team have fantastic response times for support and are very receptive to ongoing improvements. Anyone here get a good response from Adobe when a suggestion is made?
Looking forward to seeing what version 9 is packing...
cheers Dave
I'll just chime in. Studiometry is very inexpensive; it's a good value. We have 5 seats and we like it very much. What I don't like about it, is that it very often crashes when you attempt to run robust reports and it does not offer near the flexibility in reporting that it should, which I think is really short sighted, because the data is there. For example, you can run a report of uninvoiced services and you can run on non-billable services, but you can't a report on uninvoiced billable services. Vendors are lumped in with Customers in some reporting; lists like todo's or projects have to be exported to be printed in any acceptable format.
Yes, Tom is very responsive. I get the feeling that this software is more of a sideline, but again for the dollar amount, you can't beat it. That said, what we will probably eventually migrate to is keeping timesheets and expenses in the newer MYOB (Acclivity Accounted) and use Basecamp for project management. Unless 9 address many of the above issues.
You can't be all things to all people for $59.
Hi Tom,
We're adding several features to the summaries for Studiometry 9.0 including "Uninvoiced Billable Items", as well as profitability and much more. If you're not part of the beta yet, please sign up. We'll have our first beta version available next week.
Regarding the reporting/printing, we're always working on updating and improving Studiometry ability to present data in print/export form. If there's a specific section you'd like to have us update/improve, please start a new feature request in our requests forum:
http://support.oranged.net/forums/351452-studiometry-feature-requests
Thanks for the feedback and have a great week!
