boolean searches for contacts

howdy

 

i downloaded and am using the latest version of studiometry (30 day trial)

 

i have created a number of contacts.... and assigned data to custom fields

 

i now want to be able to search thru my contacts and find/filter contacts that satisfy certain criteria... eg... have an office in california AND match one (or more) of my custom fields

 

is this possible.... i couldn't find anyway of doing such a search

 

also

 

when doing an edit>search.. then selecting contacts.. i get a list of contacts with various columns... is it possible to add my custom fields to this layout... it seems that it only contains a default set of columns

  Studiometry 10.0 will have the ability to create smart groups for Contacts. This will let you create groups with several rules and effectively create a boolean search to go through your contacts.  Currently you can have groups for projects, clients, and To Dos.

  thanks for the feedback

   

  i downloaded the beta and an looking at the new "smart groups" feature... which is very cool

   

  however... whilst somewhat boolean it would be much more powerful (for my needs) if each line of the rule had an AND/ OR  as opposed to the global ALL / ANY

   

  also..

  - when creating the rules... everytime i reopen the SMART GROUP window it defaults back to a particular size.. is there anyway of setting it so that it will reopen to the last size/location

  - when editing the rules for the SMART GROUP... is it possible to have the data in the editable filed to be a drop-down list (with the ability to also enter text) from data that has been entered into the corresponding field in the contact record

  - is it possible to have more options in the actual drop down list for each line... as it only contains of few of the fields that a contact record can contain

  Hello,

  We are considering adding additional boolean values to searched and/or smart groups in an upcoming version of Studiometry, but nothing is definite yet. 

  Regarding the other questions, we have added your smart-group window position saving as a request. 

  Can you please explain a bit more what you mean by the drop-down list requests?

  to create a smart group.. as you know.. currently you add a rule... select a filed from the drop down list and then add in some criteria based on the field type

   

  so.. the idea would be to:

  - have the drop down list include all fields from the contact record.. and have an Edit option at the end to create additional fields if required

  - have a drop-down box in the criteria area that allows for differing data types... for example... you may select Zip.. and have a drop-down list of US Zip codes... these lists would have to be customizable... and one would need to be able to assign lists to fileds in the contact window

   

  to my mind.. this would help to make data entry faster...more consistent & creation of smart groups easier

   

  the above applies to contacts... but could equally apply to clients.. projects etc

  Thanks for the clarification. We'll look at possibly adding some smart suggestions for the smart groups into a future version. This won't be making it into Studiometry 10.0, but it's something we can consider for a later version. Thank you again for your feedback.
