howdy
is there anyway to have a calendar event/ to dos activate some sort of pop-up window (growl?).... or send an email etc.... the notifications side-panel is nice... but i don't always have studiometry open or at the forefront... &... don't always notice the dock icon showing the notification count

In the Preferences Window > System syncing section, there are options to show your notifications in Growl or Mountain Lion's Notification Center. This will show all Studiometry notifications in the separate notification system for you so that you don't need to open Studiometry.

is there anyway in either an event or a to do to set it so that you can get advanced warning... eg. i have a meeting at 2pm... but would like to be notified a specified amount of time before hand

If you want to be notified before an item is due, you can setup your default reminder times in the Preferences Window > Billing section, under alerts. Just set it to alert in one of the days before due options.
In terms of an actually timed alert, currently alerts are based on Days and not on time. We are looking into adding time-based alerts in the future.

If you're running Studiometry in a networked environment, Studiometry will manage how often/quickly notifications are sent out based on your network connections. Studiometry will periodically send data over on timed intervals based on several criteria, and you cannot manually set the syncing interval. When you first log in all new notifications will be sent to the user.
in this day and age... with gigabit ethernet... and super fast computers with lots of RAm... surely it would make sense to have an option to allow the client to sync with the server at a predefined interval

I'm a little confused as to which client you're using. Studiometry syncs data and changes immediately when connected to a server network. Any changes made to work, projects, clients, etc will send and broadcast over the network immediately when they are made.
Notifications are also sent immediately when they are produced. All users will receive the notifications immediately when the server goes through and checks for notifications. The only delay is that certain types of notifications are only checked for periodically, such as overdue invoices and to dos. The server will check for these items every few minutes, and once the check is completed, it will immediately send out the notifications to all users.
i am using the latest client / server
my problem is that... for example... i had a to-do scheduled for 14:25... showed up in the calendar almost immediately... HOWEVER... i only received notification (growl) of the to-do at 14:29... close on 15 mins AFTER the to-do was scheduled for

Thanks for the info. Again, alerts are currently only based on due date and not on time. We are planning on adding to this in an upcoming version of Studiometry. Thank you.
