Clickable Links in Invoice/Report templates

The ability to add clickable, customizable links in generated invoices and reports has been requested often. This will be available in Studiometry 9.0 via a new Template Item type (Web Link). Web links are areas that can include an image or text, and link to a customizable URL. The URL in Studiometry can even include variables to allow for dynamic links, and the ability to make payment links directing to Paypal or other services.

The links will only be clickable in PDF output, which will also be available in Studiometry 9.0 for Mac & Windows machines.

  Can someone provide instructions on how this is done with paypal?

  Either this function is really wonky or I'm doing it wrong (it's happened before).

  Adding a Web Link item creates a black box with the 'open external' icon. I then place that on top of a Text item, which I underlined. It looks bad. See attached.

  I'd like to at least hide the outline. Hiding the icon would be nice, too.

  But ideally, it would be welcome to let us assign a url to any item.

  In the meantime, is there a workaround?

  Ah, never mind! I see now that the outline doesn't make it into the output PDF.

  Hi Jules,

  Yes exactly. The program should alert you that those only function in PDFs, the outline is just in the app itself so you can see and reposition the link itself.

  Yes I saw that warning. It didn't mention the outline only being visible in the design view though. No other item in design view does that.

  Ok below might be real issues.

  Web Link item's Address for reference:

  1a) Good: Exporting an invoice to Email does get rid of the Web Link item box.
  1b) Bad: Printing to PDF (and I assume a physical printer) does not get rid of the Web Link item box. "Open in Preview" and "Save as PDF" have the same issue.

  

  2) I tried adding an invoice Id and project name to a Web Link item.

  2a) InvoiceID, output as "i2384" - that works fine.

  2b) When I add ProjectName (output as "March 2019") the link fails in PDF. I think it's because the ProjectName has a space. In the PDF when you click the link area. It just turns dark for a second. But no navigation happens.

  I tried all kinds of combinations but no dice:

  3c) I removed ProjectName, then added ProjectNameAndID (output as "p1695: March 2019") to the Web Link item. The link still fails. I think it's because the ProjectName has a space and ProjectNameAndID has spaces and colons.

  Maybe you can have any content in Web Link item automatically urlEncode() when generating output.
  I only know web languages so I can't help you out too much. But these would be the options:
  ColdFusion: urlEncodedFormat( string )
  PHP: urlEncode ( string )
  ASP: Server.URLEncode( string )
  JavaScript: encodeURIComponent( string )

  I can export the template to you privately if you'd like.

  An Invoice with an included hyperlink is an appealing feature. However, for my payment processor the hyperlink is unique for each individual invoice. Generating a new template for each invoice is not practical. However, if Report Fields could be implemented for Invoices as they are for Reports, the unique code could be inserted in a Report Field at the time the invoice is created.

  Can we get Report Fields implemented for Invoices?
