In Studiometry, is there one spot to designate a client tax free? Out-of-state, non-profits, and gov't agencies. I currently deselect the tax box for each work item. It's slow and I must do it each time I have a job for one of them. Please end my embarrassment of not knowing this answer and I will be grateful.

Rob Sherrard - Imageer While not the by-client fix you're looking for, there is a Tax Behavior list box in the Project Info tab where you can override the default tax settings for Work items on a By-Project basis. You still have to set it once for each project, but it's less tedious than editing every work item, as you currently do..
Adding a Tax Behavior setting to the Client Info tab would be a good feature request to Oranged.

Peter Billard Thank you, Rob. I looked at the Tax Behavior in the Project Info area. Of the three choices there, I would never have guessed one of them means 'don't charge state sales tax'. It must be the 'Override Debt Specific Settings' one. I'll see what happens next time I need it. And since there's nothing to address it directly, I'll submit it as a feature request as you mention. I appreciate your help!

Oranged Support If you select "Override Debt Specific settings" then the taxes for the project will be exactly what is set there, and the debt specific settings will be ignored. So setting it to "Override Debt Specific Settings" and choosing no taxes will cause the project to have no taxes.
Thank you for opening the feature request, it's something we can most likely work into an upcoming version!

Rob Sherrard - Imageer Peter, I believe the naming of the actions in that list box are intentionally non-specific. Tax Behavior doesn't only allow "Don't charge State Sales Tax," it covers any tax action on a project which is not what is usually done, hence Override Debt Specific Settings.
In my state, each county sets its own tax rate. My default tax setting in Studiometry is for my home county. If I do work for a resident of an adjacent county, the tax rate for that county applies. Using the Override Dept Specific Settings allows setting the tax rate for the adjacent county for that project by checking one of the alternate taxes in the Tax Names section.

Peter Billard I didn't know it could be so complicated in other states. Sounds like extra effort to keep track of it all and not mess it up. I'll be more grateful of my state's single tax rate.

Rob Sherrard - Imageer Yes, Peter, as you noted, tax accounting can be very tedious in venues where multiple rates are involved. (Some venues have layered tax structures which are even more complicated.)
Studiometry is very flexible in allowing us to calculate and invoice taxes correctly, but the reporting tools currently (v10.0.1) in the Tax Reports tab of Studiometry's Accounting scene are worthless when it comes to preparing accurate returns to the state tax authorities. It's necessary to go outside Studiometry to obtain correct summations of taxable and non-taxable transactions at the various rates.
