Client tax IDs/VAT nos.?

Hi all,

I've just purchased Studiometry, and I like the wealth of features, but I'm also getting a bit lost in it all. In particular (for now), I can't seem to find a way to specify a client's VAT number in a way that I could then include it on invoices. I see that I can add custom fields to contacts for a client, but adding a VAT no. for a business to a specific person doesn't seem like the way to go. I'm also not sure I could use a contact's custom field on a client invoice.

Anyway, am I missing something?

  The billing information for clients is stored within individual contacts via the "Billing Info" button. What you could do is create a catch-all contact for the client, and add the general billing information to that contact. You can then set up your invoices/report to display what billing info field you've selected to store the VAT number. For example, if you store it in the Other1 field, you can use that field on an invoice/report to show the stored data.

  Alternatively, you could create a Custom Field for VAT Number in the Edit Contact main window and avoid having to drill down into the Billing Info scene to insert the VAT Number into a non-specific field name.

  Yes good point, specifically this could also be added to the Client Specs tab and added to the invoice/report by accessing those.

  Oranged's suggestion of using a Client Spec for VAT Number is the best solution, in that it would apply no matter how many Contacts were attached to the Client and would only have to be entered once for that Client, in contrast to the other suggestions which require adding it for every contact attached to a client.

  @Grey, with respect to the last part of your question, you can use a contact's custom field in Invoices and Reports.

  Ok, thanks, everyone. It still seems a little strange to me to attach a company' tax/billing info at the contact level rather than directly at the company level, but if that's the way it's done in Studiometry, so be it. I hadn't found the Client Specs function yet, and that does sound like the best "compromise" solution. Cheers, Grey

  The client specs are on the client level, so if you use those it would be there instead of on the contact's level. Just go to the client's Specs section (select a client, click the Client Overview popup and select Specs) and you can add items in there.
